Israel is perpetually debated, yet seldom understood.

Our job is not to balance perspectives. It is to make sense of our differences.

Most people form their opinions on Israel based on headlines and social media. It's not their fault. The quality content is long, it is scattered, and nobody has time to consume the hundreds of op-ed pages, think tank papers, magazine articles, and podcasts, in English and Hebrew, that get published by Israel's smartest commentators every week.

Daily Lion does that reading, works out what it means, and distills it in plain language so you can get up to speed on your way to work. We take no positions on the issues. We amplify the people who do, from the left, the right, and the center, and carry every one of them at full strength.

Josh Ben-David

Meet the founder.

Josh Ben-David moved from California to Israel in 1997. He served three years in the IDF, then studied international relations at Reichman University with a specialization in counterterrorism, and went on to build a successful 15-year career in high tech.

What became clear to him is that wanting to understand Israel is not the same as being able to. Most of what people read comes from one direction, and is a tiny sliver of the bigger story. The picture they end up with is thinner and more distorted than they realize.

Josh's answer is Daily Lion. His mission is to make the best commentary on Israel, from every side, accessible and engaging — for those who vote on it, those who argue about it, and those who simply want to make sense of a country they care about.
